Athletes of the Week: Hagood pitches Comanche softball into regional championship series

May 18-24: Abilene Wylie's Connor Carlton throws 6 1/3 scoreless innings in victory over Iowa Park

The lefty earned wins in final two games in the Region I-3A semifinal series against Shallowater on May 22. In Game 2, Hagood allowed five hits and struck out six in pitching a complete game. She closed out a 6-4 victory with five consecutive shutout innings. Hagood threw seven more innings the Maidens' 8-5 victory in Game 3, shutting out the Fillies in the seventh to seal the win. Comanche (17-5) advances to the championship series, where it faces Colorado City.

Carlton took the mound when regular No. 2 starter Bryce Gist could not start Game 2 of the Region I-4A semifinals May 22 at Bowie High School. The freshman struck out four in pitching 6 1/3 shutout winnings, helping the the Bulldogs (24-4) win 5-0 and sweep the three-game series against top-ranked Iowa Park (23-2-2).

 

KYMBERLEE STRICKLAND

Comanche  Softball
Strickland went 3-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored to lead Comanche to a 6-4 victory over Shallowater in Game 2 of the three-game Region 1-Class 3A semifinal series.
